When did you start working at Beta Systems? Why did you choose Beta Systems back then?

I have been working at Beta Systems since August 1, 2022. I decided to join because I was eager for a new challenge. Additionally, I had previous experience working with Beta Systems products in the z/OS environment, making the company familiar and interesting to me.

What are your tasks at Beta Systems?

My role at Beta Systems involves maintaining and enhancing the Beta DocZ. Currently, I am also involved in replacing the competitor product CA-Spool for some clients. Additionally, I work on developing new features and addressing minor issues.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

My workday typically starts around 9:00 AM, with the first team meeting at 10:00 AM through video conferencing in Teams, as our team is distributed across Germany. Throughout the day, I may have meetings related to customer topics or knowledge sharing, as we aim to absorb the expertise of soon-to-retire colleagues. Otherwise, I have the flexibility to focus on my tasks.

Office or home office?

Based in Kiel, I was hired as a remote worker. However, even if I were in Berlin, I would likely prefer working mainly from home due to the time saved by eliminating the commute.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I find a lot of pleasure in programming. Diving deep into the programs, finding solutions, and seeing them work give me a great sense of accomplishment. It sometimes doesn't even feel like work.

What do you particularly appreciate about your colleagues?

I value the open and fun nature of my colleagues. When we do get together in person, there's always a lot to discuss, and we have a great time.

What qualities do you need for a job in your field? What challenges are there?

For my role, one must be willing to grasp complex processes and possess logical thinking abilities. Additionally, a willingness to tackle unfamiliar topics and handle new tasks is crucial. One challenge is managing a very extensive system with program sources that have evolved over decades, requiring patience and concentration to understand.

What do you like best about Beta Systems as an employer?

I appreciate the flexibility to manage my working hours relatively freely. I can continue working from home, which is crucial for me. However, I also have occasional opportunities to meet my colleagues in person, such as at our anniversary celebration or summer fest. I always have a great time with the colleagues I've gotten to know better.

What 3 words would you use to describe Beta Systems?

Mainframe, international, approachable.
